Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon grated lime zest

  • teaspoon kosher salt

  • ¼ cup lime juice (from 2 limes), divided

  • ½ cup ice, plus more for glasses

  • 2 ounces reposado tequila

  • 1 ounce orange liqueur

  • 2 teaspoons agave syrup

  • Lime wheels for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Combine lime zest and salt on a small shallow plate. Place 2 tablespoons lime juice on a separate shallow plate. Dip rims of 2 rocks glasses into the lime juice, then dip into the salt and zest mixture, coating the rims with the mixture. Add ice to each glass.

  2. Transfer the remaining lime juice from the plate to a cocktail shaker; add 1/2 cup ice, tequila, orange liqueur, agave syrup, the remaining salt and zest mixture from the plate and the remaining 2 tablespoons lime juice. Cover and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain the mixture evenly into the prepared glasses. Garnish each with a lime wheel, if desired.
