Tip: Add up to 1 ounce of simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter cocktail. To prepare simple syrup: Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cook, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature, about 45 minutes. Refrigerate for up to 1 month. (Makes 1-1 1/4 cups.)
