The baked pears in this easy fruit dessert recipe simply bake in a sauce of Marsala wine mingled with honey, orange, cinnamon and vanilla. Serve the pears warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or with a small sugar cookie.

  • Whisk wine, water and honey in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Add orange zest and cinnamon stick. Split vanilla bean, scrape out the sticky black seeds with the tip of a small, sharp knife and add them and the pod to the baking dish. Place the pears cut-side down in the baking dish.

  • Bake, basting every 15 minutes or so with the wine mixture, until the pears are very tender, 1 to 1 1/4 hours. Serve the pears warm, drizzled with the sauce.

Tips

Make Ahead Tip: Cover and refrigerate cooled pears (in syrup) for up to 2 days. To reheat, bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes.

So delicious I was looking for a delicious healthy recipe that would be good for guests as well as my heart. I made this recipe almost as written.
