Follow the recipe I made this recipe with some substitutions and they didn't work for me. I used a carrot organge marmelade and a milder cheese. I think you need the kick from the sharp cheddar and the chutney. I rarely have chutney on hand though. I'm going to try it today with peach salsa. Pros: Quick easy different Cons: A little to funky
Quicker than it looks. I like the idea of trying this as a grilled cheese as another reviewer mentioned. It's nice to be able to use whichever cheese or jam is in the fridge to make this tasty breakfast. Pros: Flexible with lots of potential variations. Cons: Didn't like the whole wheat english muffin.
It was better when I made it into a grilled cheese sandwich on wheat bread. Buttert both slices of bread use 2 slices of 2 % sharp cheddar cheese with thin slices of your chose of apples. I used gala apples and cook. It is awesome.
I'm always looking for new breakfast ideas that are satisfying filling and quick. This recipe fits the bill. I used Ezekiel English muffins Italian cherry conserve and sliced pears because that's what I had on hand. I used shredded cheddar. I'll pick up sliced cheddar for next time or maybe try another sliced cheese as the shredded cheddar was okay but it melt as nicely as a sliced cheese might.
I love this breakfast! It sticks with me and gives me everything I want - crunch sweetness tartness and saltiness. I loved it so much I made one for my husband and he actually liked it as well. I give it a 5 star rating!!
I tried this for lunch today and it was good....but not great. I like the flavors of apples and cheese but something about the english muffin sort of diluted the apple/cheese flavor. I used rasberry jam on the muffin and it did add a sweetness to the overall flavor which was very nice.
I tried this with chutney and then another version with a vegetable spread and cinnamon/sugar. Both were wonderful even with Veggie Shreds rather than real cheese!
