Sauer Brands, Inc. issued a voluntary recall after being informed of the potential presence of salmonella in their organic parsley flakes. While no illnesses have been reported to date, salmonella "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections" and can present as "fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain," according to the FDA

The products were issued under The Spice Hunter brand and were distributed online at spicehunter.com and sold at retail stores in the following states: Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

The affected products come in clear glass jars and are marked with lot codes 20217C, 20220C, 20269C and 20270C. Out of caution, Sauer is also recalling other spices that were produced on the same day in case of cross-contamination. You can find a list of all impacted products here.

You should avoid consuming the items in question, and are eligible to return them to the place of purchase for return. You can contact Sauer Brands, Inc. at 1-800-444-3061, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

A second voluntary recall by Red Monkey Foods, Inc. was also issued in regards to organic parsley flakes being potentially contaminated with salmonella. The impacted products were issued under the following brand names: Cost Plus World Market, Great Value, O Organics and Full Circle. No illnesses have been reported to date.

These affected products come in retail packages weighing 0.3-0.65 ounces and have a best-by date of March 13, 2023; March 24, 2023; March 11, 2023; March 14, 2023 and March 25, 2023. The parsley was distributed in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. You can find a list of all impacted products here.
