Plus, it's low-calorie and vegan friendly.

Whenever I cook Mexican food, I usually make a burrito bowl to help lower the carbohydrate count of my meal. By eliminating the tortilla, I can instead enjoy more of the delicious filling. But now, a new option from Mr. Tortilla has me rethinking my next taco night.

According to a press release, Mr. Tortilla's new low-carb tortilla is perfect for anyone looking to cut back on carbs. The wheat-flour tortilla contains 3 grams of carbohydrates, 15 calories, 0.5 grams of fat, 40 milligrams of sodium, 2 grams of fiber and 1 gram of protein. If each tortilla has 3 grams of carbs, you may be a little confused with the packaging, which touts them as having 1 net carb. Here's the catch:

A net carb is considered the total number of carbohydrates that your body actually digests. To calculate the net carbs in an ingredient, people use this formula: total carbohydrates - fiber - sugar alcohols = net carbs. (You can read more about net carbs here.)

While counting net carbs may seem appealing, there's very little health benefit. If you're looking to lose weight on a low-carb diet, there are other things you can do, like increasing the amount of fiber you eat. Adding fiber to your diet can help you lose weight and maintain a healthier weight over time.

While you don't need to worry about net carbs, this new tortilla is still a great low-carb option. You can purchase a pack of 24 tortillas from the Mr. Tortilla website.
