Macadamia Nuts Sold at Whole Foods, Amazon, More Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Risk
NOW Health Group (NOW) is voluntarily recalling its NOW Real Food Raw Unsalted Macadamia Nuts for potentially being contaminated with salmonella bacteria. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
NOW became aware of the potential salmonella contamination during routine sampling and did not distribute the macadamia nuts from that lot. However, previous batches were distributed nationwide at Whole Foods, health stores and online retailers such as Amazon.
Customers who have purchased NOW’s macadamia nuts are urged to immediately stop using the product and return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can also contact NOW’s customer service department by calling 888-NOW-FOOD (888-669-3663) Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST.
