Cotija Cheese Recalled in 5 States for Possible E. Coli Contamination
Quesos La Ricura Ltd. is voluntarily recalling one of their cheese products for potential E. coli contamination. The New York-based company issued this recall after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services discovered the product was contaminated with Shiga toxin- producing E.coli (STEC) in a random sampling test.
This recall is being issued for New York, North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania and Georgia. The product being recalled is listed as follows and only applies to "sell by" dates of May 20, 2020-3 and May 20, 2020-4:

It's worth noting that the Shiga toxin can be deadly, and antibiotics shouldn't be used to treat this specific type of E. coli. The CDC says, "Taking certain antibiotics may lead to the production or release of more Shiga toxin, which can increase the chance of kidney damage."
