How to Make Homemade Sorbet
Learn how to make sorbet with our healthy recipe that uses any fruit and a little sweetener in your ice cream maker or food processor.
Fruit sorbet is a refreshing dessert for warm summer days. Our healthy sorbet recipe helps you transform any fruit into a healthy treat with just a little sweetener. To make healthy sorbet, first puree fruit or berries in a food processor until smooth. For perfectly smooth sorbet, strain the pureed fruit through a sieve to remove any seeds or bitter skins, pressing gently with a spatula to extract all the juice. Next, make your own sweetening syrup. In a small saucepan, combine juice, fruit nectar, liqueur or wine, and sugar. You can choose how much sugar to add. Stir the syrup into the fruit puree and chill the mixture in the fridge until cold, about four hours. Once cool, transfer the sorbet mixture to an ice cream maker and process according to the manufacturer's instructions, or if you don't have an ice cream maker, freeze the sorbet mixture in a shallow metal cake pan until solid, about six hours. Break into chunks and process in a food processor until smooth. For healthy sorbet recipes, go to eatingwell.com.
