Quick Tips When Eating Out
Hi, I'm Jessie, and this is Nicci. We're here in the EatingWell Test Kitchen, and today we're going to give you a couple of easy tricks to help you visually estimate realistic portion sizes. Part of learning to eat healthier is realizing that the servings that you sometimes get in the real world don't line up with what are appropriate portion sizes. So right here we have a 3-ounce serving of lean protein And that's about the same size as a deck of cards. Over here we have a medium potato. And that's about the same size as a computer mouse. And when you're trying to estimate serving sizes of say, salad dressing, when you're eating in a restaurant, you can actually use your hand as a point of reference. Your thumb is about the same size as a tablespoon, and the tip of your thumb is about the same size as a teaspoon.
