Heart Health: 2 Quick Mediterranean Snacks

Hi, I'm Nicci, EatingWell's nutrition expert. And I'm Jessie, food editor here at EatingWell. Studies show that people who eat a Mediterranean-type diet, full of whole grains and beans, lots of fruits and vegetables and heart-healthy oils like olive oil, tend to have a lower risk for heart disease. So we're going to show you how to use these healthy ingredients to make two quick Mediterranean-style snacks. This one uses half a whole-grain pita. I'm spreading it with hummus, and then I'm going to top that with some artichoke hearts and some roasted red peppers straight out of the jar. Or you could just break up some crusty whole-grain bread. Put it into a portable container and toss in some cherry tomatoes and some olives for an on-the-go snack. And then if you want to spice up some olives, you can just toss it with olive oil, basil, oregano and some chopped garlic.
