The FDA is investigating an outbreak of salmonella that they say is linked to frozen ground tuna from Jensen Tuna

Be careful where you get your spicy tuna rolls!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration, 13 people in seven states were infected with salmonella in what the FDA believes is an outbreak linked to ground raw tuna originating from Jensen Tuna in Houma, Louisiana.

On Monday, Jensen Tuna recalled its frozen ground tuna. The recalled tuna was packaged in one-pound bags and sold in 20-pound boxes. The boxes were under lot numbers z266, z271 and z272, according to the CDC.

The product was distributed by Jensen Tuna to Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota and Washington, though the CDC warns that it could have ended up in additional states.

The thirteen illnesses due to salmonella started on dates spanning Jan. 8 and March 20. Two people have been hospitalized, according to the CDC, but no deaths have been reported.

Through interviews with infected consumers, the FDA was able to link the outbreak to Jensen Tuna.

The CDC is urging consumers who order spicy tuna rolls to ask restaurants and grocery stores if their raw tuna is from Jensen Tuna, and to contact their doctor if they believe they have been infected.

According to the CDC, symptoms of salmonella may include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.
