In the US, we have sweet potatoes. Some people call them yams, but they are not true yams. If you bought them in the US, they are sweet potatoes. Wikipedia has articles on both.

Sweet potatoes are usually lighter skinned than a yam and more expensive but worth it. The meat is more a yellow than orange. If all else fails, ask the produce man at the supermarket.

I've been trying to find a true sweet potato, my husband is telling me the large bag of potatoes I am buying at SAMs club or costco are yams, but it's labeled sweet potato , I've googled reserched and can't find a good description of a sweet potato. Why are they labeling yams a sweet potatoe? They have the color and the tyre of a yam, please help explain this , I love my large bag of veggies but would love them more if I knew they were really sweet potato and not yams, sweet photos to are way better than yams for you
