Tasty and easy

I really liked this, and it's even better the next day. I read through the comments and still didn't bother pre-cooking the veggies. However, I used a 1-pound bag of peas which wasn't quite enough. The recipe calls for 3 cups, and that's probably a bit more (it would be nice if the recipe was built around standard package sizes, but that's just me). I kept the other ingredients at their measurements, and threw in a smoked ham shank for flavor. It's very flavorful on its own. There was more liquid than I needed because of the amount of peas used, but when it cooled I was able to skim off nearly a cup of clear liquid and that helped.

Love this soup!!

I am not a pea soup fan and my husband is so I was happy to find a soup I would enjoy too. I use leftover ham bones to make it and it is always yummy. I love being able to make things in crock pot. Set it and forget it. You will not be disappointed.

easy, flavorful soup

It's all about the ham

Buy a high quality smoked ham, and that will really infuse flavor into the soup. Use all chicken broth (I like the Imagine organic free range brand) - do not use water in the recipe. Sautee the veggies in canola or olive oil before putting them in the crockpot. And if you really want to add some zip, put in 2 teaspoons of curry power when sauteeing the veggies. Also, add the ginger at the very end after the soup is done cooking. Lastly, green split peas are OK to use as well.

Better than store bought!

Delicious! I followed the recipe to the letter, and didn't find it to be the least bit bland. I made sure to use fresh quality ingredients, which makes all the difference when cooking. I will be making this again.

Fast, cost effective, full of flavour

hearty, tasty soup for a cozy winter evening

I honestly don't understand some of these reviewers saying it was bland, so they put hot sauce in it. If you're looking for a spicy soup then look for another recipe. Read the recipe and follow the instructions and a delicious pea soup is what you will get. The salt comes from the ham and we used green split peas because we can't find yellow ones here where we live, cooked on high for 5h and it was delish... a creamy pea soup, veggie was good, but they are not supposed to be the star of the show, remember that...it's not a veggie soup, it's a pea soup ... again, it's a great recipe and you will only get dissapointed if you're making a pea soup, expecting a hot, spicy soup, or a chicken/veggie soup.... look for the right recipe of what you really want before you write a review saying this one was bad.
