Thick & Rich Hot Cocoa

Your rating: None Average: 4 (143 votes)

Rich, creamy and thick enough that you may want to scoop it with a spoon, this European-style drinking chocolate is something different from the usual hot cocoa. Serve it in a demitasse or espresso cup for an elegant treat.

READER'S COMMENT:
"I definitely can't believe its only 98 calories. However, a dash of vanilla extract, cinnamon, or grated orange peel adds some subtle flavor. "

Please don't call this "European"

If you're looking for a chocolate pudding, this ought to do the trick. But as far as drinking chocolate goes, this is about as European as German chocolate cake is German.

Perfect For certain purposes

I'm in AP European history (I'm 15) and I have to do a history of food project and I chose Hot Chocolate. This is a good and easy recipe but don't expect an extremely sweet result. It's surprisingly good and I would love to make it again! So easy a 15 y.o. can do it!

Easy to make, nice and thick result

Perfectly delicious!

My favorite hot cocoa recipe! The store bought kind always lacks any kind of thickness or taste, too watery and flavorless. I use this often and it's a favorite. I do find however that the recipe is a tad easy to mess up if not careful with the measurements and corn starch, which might be why others are having an issue. Do not add more cornstarch after cooking, it will make it lumpy!

Subtle sweetness, low calories, thickness

Worst recipe I've ever used!

Very Lumpy. Not sweet at all and had almost a power like consistency. After trying the recipe, we tried adding more sugar and it just made it worse. Saddest excuse for a recipe i've ever tried.

Did not like one bit

It was lumpy and gluggy and definitely not drinkable at all. It was barely sweet at all, needed more sugar. Was very disappointed in how bad this turned out, as i was very keen to find an easy decadent dessert and the previous reviews looked so good.

it involved chocolate
