Hi- has anyone given this to their children? I know that alcohol is meant to evaporate whilst cooking but not sure about using alcohol in a slow cooker when you're not allowed to even lift up the lid during the cooking time. Any thoughts?
Slow-Cooker Stout & Chicken Stew
From EatingWell: January/February 2012
Chicken thighs can take plenty of cooking without getting tough or drying out, which makes them perfect for the slow cooker. Here we braise them in Guinness stout along with hearty vegetables, with just the right amount of bacon for added savoriness.

I made this for dinner, anticpating a blizzard, because it seemed like the perfect antidote to the cold. And indeed it was! I know nothign about beer, so I bought something called Kalamazoo Stout. The sauce was fabulously rich, and all the veggies/meat cooked beautifully. I served it over mashed rustic russets, and that was excellent. I froze the rest and I’m thinking it will be even better the next time.
worse slow cooker recipe I have ever made. Terrible flavor, time consuming prep, barely edible and I followed to a t. Go for another
Love the easiness of crock pot cooking. I found myself adding additional salt on my portion to bring out the flavors. Next time I will try the Worcestershire sauce, that may work. I liked the thick gravy it made as well. Delicious!
I added a very large chopped yam mid-cooking time and also at the beginning used six strips of bacon cut into one inch pieces. Used sea salt (fine) and 1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce also (may increase another teaspoon next time. I don't know why some say there is no flavor. It was great and the yam even added a hint of sweetness. Will definitely make again. The bacon was smoked Applewood bacon so maybe that helped. At any rate this is a keeper.
