Portobello "Philly Cheese Steak" Sandwich

Cheese steaks are a Philadelphia tradition: thin slices from a rich and very fatty slab of beef, fried up and topped with a heavy cheese sauce. We've cut down on the fat considerably - but not on the taste. All it needs is a cold beer or a glass of pinot noir on the side. Make this vegetarian by using vegetable broth in place of chicken stock.

My husband and I loved this recipe. After trying this recipe, my husband says he may become vegetarian. We did not miss the beef and/or chicken.

These are a big hit at my house, even with my teenage son who would live on hamburgers if I let him. They have that nice, meaty taste that portobellos impart, and there's just enough sauce to give it some flavor without being too messy. I have never tried to spice this up, though some of the suggestions sound good. But I'm happy with this recipe as is.

I came across this recipe while at work late and came home to try it. I was amazed! It was so good that I will gladly subsitute meat anytime! The only thing I did different was use low-fat american cheese and some garlic powder. Very easy recipe when your hungry and want something quick and healthy.

This is a yummy sandwich. I thought it could use a little kick, so we added some pickled hot peppers & garlic, which made it even better. Easy recipe to follow too (if you prep all of the veggies beforehand).
