Canola oil and splenda are both perfectly healthy for people who have diet control. This is based on peer reviewed public researchers done by qualified scientists at leading academic institutions. GMOs are actually good for the environment because herbicide resistant crops allow for reduced herbicide usage on canola. Also we are not eating the GMO part because that is protein and to make a good oil it is gleaned of all DNA. The only problem here might be with large companies owning the seed technology and the splenda, but it is the lack of government regulation that leads to the success of these companies. By the way - excellent recipe and versatile in terms of types of spices to use.

GMOs are GOOD for the environment?! Are you NUTS?
Immediately upon reading the
Immediately upon reading the original comment, my jaw dropped at how misinformed this person is, not unlike the majority of people who have not done their own research. I was extremely proud of the others who commented, who felt compelled to set the false information straight for any future readers. I endlessly thank you.
I don't know where you heard
I don't know where you heard that GMOs are good for the environment (if it was from peer reviewed research by "qualified scientists" I can assure you that those scientists either had a different agenda and/or have since been the target of ridicule from the entire scientific community). In fact it's exactly the opposite. GMOs actually increase the use of herbicides because farmers no longer worry about applying too much thereby killing their crops. Additionally, the expansion of GMOs (particularly glyphosate-resistant, or "Round-up ready" crops) has reduced the variety of herbicides on the market. Because crops are resistant this herbicide, scientists are no longer motivated to develop new herbicides (a lengthy and expensive process). Therefore, farmers are forced to use the particular herbicide (Round-up), which will eventually cause all vegetation (even weeds) to become resistant to it.
Good for the environment? I think not.
If only it were true that
If only it were true that herbicide resistant crops resulted in less herbicide usage instead of herbicide resistant weeds and consequently more herbicide use...Epic Fail
to all of you who believe
to all of you who believe this garbage, I feel for you. GMO's are leading to the death mother nature and the human race. And Splenda, be real! Why would anyone put anything in or onto their body's that is not "real". "Perfectly safe" just like all those drugs being pulled off the market, just like the American Heart Association Diet (which causes diabetes, by the way), and just like smoking. Remember when that was considered safe? Open your eyes, people, and don't believe everything you hear. Think for yourself. There is lots of information out there, read it and make an informed decision.
