We couldn’t get enough of these crunchy onion rings in the EatingWell Test Kitchen. Try any seasoning blend that you have on hand to add flavor to the breading or substitute 1 teaspoon salt instead. Seasoned whole-wheat breadcrumbs are available in some supermarkets and natural-foods stores. If you can find them, try them in place of the plain breadcrumbs and seasoning blend.

These really didn't take as long as I thought they would to prepare. Only about 15-18 min. My family loved them also. I thought they were a little too crunchy. I used regular seasoned bread crumbs. Seasoned them with seasoned salt and a touch of cayanne. So easy. Will make them again.

This sounds good; I will definitely try it; I love onion rings, but they are always so greasy. This sounds like it might let me have them without all the oil, calories, etc.

I did not try the recipe but since I am lowering my cholesterol, I realized that 79mg of cholesterol in the recipe made it twice as much as I am allowed to consume in a day-So sad, because I love a good onion ring.

Egg Beaters make a great

Egg Beaters make a great subsitute for recipes that call for whole eggs. I don't know why it says that it is not suitable for baking - I've baked cakes, cookies, casseroles, etc. I use it as a subsitute for every recipe that calls for whole eggs and I never once had a "fail". They are cholesterol free as well :-)

My family LOVED this recipe. I used seasoned bread crumbs, because that was what we had on hand, and omitted the seasoning. I varied the thickness of the rings, and found that the thinly sliced ones are more crunchy, and the thickly (1/2 inch) sliced ones are good for a deep oniony flavor. Use a vidalia onion for an extra sweet ring.
