Take a trip to the malt shop without leaving home when you whip up these malted banana smoothies.

"I used the Carnation malted milk. The recipe came out too sweet for my taste. The next time, I will eliminate the brown sugar and try that. "
Malted Banana Smoothie

Makes: 2 servings, 1 cup each

  • 1 cup low-fat milk
  • 1 ripe medium banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup malted-milk powder, such as Ovaltine or Carnation
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ice cubes, crushed


  1. Combine milk, banana, malted-milk powder, brown sugar, vanilla and ice cubes in a blender; blend until smooth and frothy. Serve immediately.


Per serving: 320 calories; 5 g fat (3 g sat, 1 g mono); 18 mg cholesterol; 57 g carbohydrates; 11 g protein; 2 g fiber; 240 mg sodium; 557 mg potassium.
