Why put the cheese on top of the burger when half of it just melts off? Instead, form the burger around the cheese so you can char the meat and safeguard the more delicate flavors. Use any mixture of hard or semihard cheeses--Emmentaler and Gouda or Asiago and Parmigiano-Reggiano also pair well.

As any true Minneapolis citizen knows, this is called a Juicy Lucies. You can put whatever cheese you want in them and top them with all sorts of wonderful things. I love the other reader's comments about using ground turkey and am totally going to try it! Let your creative juices flow with the Juicy Lucies. The options are endless!

This recipe is very good but we used lean ground turkey instead of the beef.

I really liked this idea! It made them so moist. We grilled mushrooms & onions and put on top. I did add some salt as I salt EVERYTHING.

I made these before I ever saw this recipe and they are delicious. I even suggest adding thawed out shredded spinach to the cheese mixture. Or add fresh spinach on top with a tomato.
