Our updated Sloppy Joe takes lean ground beef and adds chopped cremini mushrooms and diced fresh plum tomatoes, all in a zesty sauce. Served on a whole-wheat bun, it's a hearty dinner sandwich that will please adults and kids alike.

"This is so good! Instead of the ketchup/chili sauce I used tomato puree, added 2 cloves of crushed garlic, a liberal sprinkling of chili powder, a dash of cayenne, and just a bit of honey. Looking forward to the leftovers! "

Eating Well sloppy Joe

I have tried many other versions for healthy sloppy joes and this is my favorite. The search is over. I added Penzeys Chicago seasoning, and used a can of diced tomato with the juice rather then water for the tomato.

Best recipe ever.

This was delicious and will definitely make it again!
It tasted so much better than Manwhich and was extremely easy to make. I chopped onions & green peppers (omitted mushrooms) in a food processor and cooked with chop meat. I took the advice from another and used a can of Fire Roasted Petite Diced Tomatoes instead of chopping fresh tomatoes. I also used very little cider vinegar. Thanks to everyone for their reviews because it helped me create a great dish for the family!

I have been instructed to never again buy store bought sloppy joe sauce. My family loved these. I served them with roasted potatoes. Perfect!

Easy to make, and my family loved them.
Easy, yummy, healthy!

Love this! I cut the recipe in half since we didn't need a full batch. I only used a 1/8 of a cup of vinegar since I only made half and much and it wasn't to strong at all. Also used 2 tbs of tomato paste and 2 tbs sugar free honey instead of ketchup to lower the sodium. also added in chili powder and minced garlic. I think next time I'll add in some chopped green peppers.

able to sub in diffrent items
easy meal

I LOVE these sloppy joes,.almost as easy as the can. I use ground turkey and double the chili sauce and ketchup for our liking....
