Lean ground beef is a healthy choice. Really.
Ground beef is inexpensive and versatile—two great reasons to serve it for dinner. But there are even more great reasons to consider lean ground beef. For starters, the 93%-lean ground beef used in these healthy ground beef recipes, considered “lean” by the USDA, fits into a healthy eating plan. Few foods provide as much zinc, a mineral vital to growth and a healthy immune system. Plus beef is a great source of protein, iron and vitamin B12. And studies have shown that women with higher intakes of a naturally occurring trans fat found in beef had denser bones than women with lower intakes. Take advantage of the relatively little fat and all those health benefits with these easy ground beef recipes.

Shopping Tip
- Ground beef must be at least 90% lean to meet government guidelines for “lean” meat—the other 10% is fat. Our recipes were tested with a range of lean beef—from 90% to 96%. We like 93%-lean beef in these recipes—it has just 3 grams of saturated fat per 3-ounce (cooked) serving, but is still moist. If 93%-lean isn’t available, use any ground beef that’s 90% lean or leaner.

I am not happy with the packaging of the ground beef at Stop & Shop. It also doesn't chop up well when using it for tacos or meat sauce. Why did they change the way they ground the meat and package it?

I have the Butcher grind a trimmed brisket or a lean chuck roast for my hamburger. This is usually much cheaper per pound and I have leaner ground meat.

Well OK. We use a lot of hamburger in my family. It's a versatile ingredient that a lot can be done with. I don't know where the person who wrote this article shops, but 90% and above ground beef is NOT at all cheap.

My husband is an avid hunter, and when he does get a deer, we use venison in place of hamburger, for all beef/steak/roast etc. recepies. I believe that it's is much more lean than beef itself, and is much more healthy. What is venison's nutritional info?
