Tilapia, a relatively plentiful fish, has the unfortunate reputation of being dull. All it needs is a spice rub, a familiar barbecuing technique that works just as well indoors. You could also use this rub on chicken breasts or toss it with lightly oiled shrimp before cooking.

Good but SPICY!!

This was a very flavorful fish recipe. It was also very spicy. I used the amount of chili powder called for in the recipe and both my husband and myself were having a hard time eating it.........and we are from New Mexico and grew up on spicy food. Next time I will use less chili powder.

So Simple but Tasty!

I already love tilapia, it's usually my go-to fish. This rub was so easy to throw together and made the fish extremely flavorful. I would definitely make this again.

This spice rub is so much more flavorful than the marinade I was using on tilapia previously. It seared the fish, so that the outside was crisp and the inside was tender. What really wowed me is the effect on the asparagus. I love asparagus already, full disclosure, but I didn't know it could taste so good spicy. I did have to make an alternative rub to use for the members of the family who can't handle the chili - I used 1T of Mrs Dash in place of the 2T of Chili Powder for them, and dredged their fish lighter than I dredged mine.

This spice blend does wonderful things for asparagus.

I was able to cut the calories and saturated fat by reducing the amount of olive oil by 50%. Just make sure you are using a non-stick pan and the results will be just as good.
