Chicken & Sweet Potato Stew

February/March 2006

Your rating: None Average: 3.5 (772 votes)

Here's a dinnertime warmer with a hint of spring's sweetness, designed for that day when you'd rather be outside raking the leaves from the garden, getting it ready for what's ahead, than slaving over the stove.

READER'S COMMENT:
"Good but I'd put the sweet potatoes in later as they get too soft and tend to disintegrate in 5 hours. Also substituted onions for shallots. "

Very unexciting. No taste. Needs more spice. Do not recommend

I liked this stew. I cooked it on high for 3 hours and it turned out great.

Forgot: mushrooms turn black-- add them the last hour of cooking

This was not good at all. I suggest the Ropa Viejo slow cooker recipe. Unless you like sweet potatoes, which we usually do, this just didn't do anything for us. I thought maybe the next day it would have been better, flavors melding, but nope. It was not worth saving. Plus, the chicken bones disinegrate when using slow cooking method.
