We loved this!! Served it over wide noodles. We added some of our favorite seasonings to give a bit more flavor. And added a bit more of the wine. All in all Excellent!

This was really, really good! I added black beans (rinsed first), marjoram, boullion, and thickened the broth just before I served it. It's a great recipe that you can adapt to suit you. I cooked it on the stove, and cut the potatoes into smaller peices and cut up the chicken because I didn't want to wait--and I'm glad I didn't! This was really wonderful! My kids call it a "keeper".
I loved this recipe i did tweek it however to make it work and it turned out wonderful.
to start i used a none sparkling mascato for the wine and doubled the amount which really blended well with the flavor of the sweet potato. I used onion instead of scallions. I added some herbs de provence to the mix and it really complemented the dish. I cut the sweet potatoes into large slices. I put everything except the vinegar in a large ziploc bag the night before and froze the whole thing over night.The next day I dumped the contents into the crock pot put it on low and when I came home from work 8 hours later it was perfect. The potatoes were perfectly cooked not mushy I will definatly be making this again.
So, I'm not sure why so many reviews said the dish was not flavorful, because I thought it was bursting with flavor thanks to the white wine! The only things I did different were to add 3 cloves of minced garlic (instead of 4 cloves), I added some celery and half a chopped onion (instead of the scallions), I chopped then crushed a sprig of rosemary, and I used boneless chicken thighs instead of bone-in. Next time, I think I will use chicken breast since I don't care for the work required to clean fatty thighs, and I didn't feel that their flavor added that much to the dish. Also, I cooked this dish on low for 5 1/2 hours, and everything seemed to cook well. The sweet potatoes did fall apart a little, but I think that just adds to the broth. I liked how hearty the stew was, without leaving you feeling weighed down afterwards! Another EatingWell success!
Loved this, everything tasted so good and worked so well with the cooking time of about 5 hours on LOW. Some changes I made and would suggest: double up on the white wine and the garlic, they add lots of flavor and cooked, soft garlic is delicious! I also doubled the mushrooms, but I love mushrooms. :) It also helps if you cut the potatoes into larger chunks, it keeps them from breaking down too quickly.
