Sturdy apples are flavored with cinnamon and vanilla in this slow cooker apple compote. Top with low-fat vanilla ice cream and a sprinkling of toasted walnuts for dessert.

I went with the reviews to my chagrin

I cut the sugar per the multiple reviews and it is not sweet enough. I used the Granny Smiths called for.

Good and Easy

We made this to spoon atop vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Nice spice and vanilla. I skimped on sugar when measuring, but next time will probably reduce to half.
There will be a next time. :-)

simple, no-fuss

I did the same thing with less sugar + added lemon juice in the beginning ( to stop oxidation of the apples) + cinnamon >
I placed in d oven for 40 odd min at 180. U can increase the time based on the look. Do not forget to cover the pot while baking. And toss the apples when they are done half way thru.

Not as good as i had hoped

In the picture it appears to have something crunchy on top, but the recipe doesn't call for anything, Something to give it that crunch would have really helped. Also, cutting back on the sugar is a good idea, i used the full amount and it was definitely too sweet. The rome apples we used were a little too soft, make sure to buy a more firm apple. I would also cut the apples into bigger pieces, to make them easier to cook as well as eat. Smaller pieces tend to become much after cooking for so long.
All in all, it wasn't a bad recipe, just use thicker slices, less sugar, and something to give it a crunch!

Caramelized YUMMY !!!

I completely forgot about my slow cooker being on high in the corner of my kitchen ... 7 hours later (ON HIGH!) ... I had a terrified look at my 3/4 shrunken apple confit ... and boy ... WAS THAT GOOD! They were almost caramelized with the chunks still whole and a deep full perfumed taste. By the way I added 1/2 tsp of ground cardamom. YUMMY. My whole family jumped on it and it was gone in one bite. Worth the work of peeling, coring and dicing the apples. Enjoy.

You can forget about it and it gets even better with time!
