Sagey Gin Gimlet

“Bright and refreshing, this gin gimlet is made with sage-infused simple syrup and muddled fresh sage. This light and festive cocktail is perfect for fall gatherings, such as Thanksgiving. This recipe makes enough simple syrup for about 8 cocktails and can easily be doubled for a crowd.”


    • Sage Simple Syrup
    • ½ cup sugar
    • ½ cup water
    • 10 fresh sage leaves
    • Sagey Gin Gimlet
    • 5 fresh sage leaves, plus more for garnish
    • 3 ounces gin
    • 1½ ounces sage simple syrup
    • 1½ ounces fresh lemon juice
    • Ice
    • 2 slices lemon


  • 1 To prepare simple syrup: Heat sugar, water and 10 sage leaves in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Strain and refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes, and up to 2 weeks.
  • 2 To prepare cocktail: Fill a shaker half full with ice. Add sage leaves and use a muddler (or the back of a wooden spoon) to muddle the sage with the ice. Add gin, simple syrup and lemon juice and fill with ice. Cover tightly and shake well. Divide the cocktail between 2 martini glasses and garnish each with a lemon slice and sage leaf, if desired.
  • To make ahead: Refrigerate syrup (Step 1) for up to 2 weeks.
