It's easy to pick up bags of pre-made snack mix at the grocery store, but why buy them when snack mix is so easy to make at home? This spicy snack mix recipe is simple and fun to make and costs less than what you'd pay to buy it pre-made.

  • 2 cups puffed corn cereal
  • 2 cups bite-size corn square cereal
  • 2 cups whole-wheat or whole-grain melba toast rounds, coarsely broken (3 ounces)
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons reduced-sodium Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce
  • 1 cup crunchy chipotle- or falafel-flavored chickpeas (see Tip)
  • ½ cup shelled roasted salted pistachio nuts

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F. Combine both of the corn cereals and the melba toast rounds in a 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.
  2. Stir together the oil, honey, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and hot pepper sauce in a small bowl. Pour the oil mixture over the cereal mixture in the pan; toss until well coated.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring twice. Stir in chickpeas and pistachio nuts. Spread snack mix on a large sheet of foil and let cool.
  • Tip: If you can't find the crunchy chickpeas, increase the puffed corn cereal to 3 cups.
