4 cups halved strawberries
6 cups diet ginger ale
¼ cup lime juice
½ cup loosely packed small fresh basil leaves
8 thin slices fresh ginger
In a blender or food processor combine strawberries, ½ cup of the ginger ale and the lime juice. Cover and blend or process until smooth. Strain if desired.
Transfer strawberry mixture to a large pitcher. Slowly pour in the remaining ginger ale; stir gently. Fill eight glasses with crushed ice; divide basil and ginger among glasses. Pour in strawberry mixture.
Variation: To make alcoholic: Add 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) vodka or light rum to each serving.
