This North Carolina Vinegar Sauce is sweet and tangy, and pairs perfectly with grilled chicken or pulled pork.

  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar or brown sugar substitute equivalent to 2 tablespoons brown sugar (see Tip)
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  1. In a medium non-reactive saucepan, combine vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, crushed red pepper, salt, and black pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Transfer to a glass bowl; cool completely. Serve with desired meat (see Tip).
  • Tip: Choose from Sweet 'N Low® Brown or Sugar Twin® Granulated Brown. Follow package directions to use product amount equivalent to 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Nutrition Facts Per Serving with Substitute: Same as below, except 22 cal., 241 mg sodium, 5 g carb. Exchanges: Free. Carb Choices: 0.
