Toasted Apple-Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches

“When you think of breakfast sandwiches, the egg-cheese-bacon variety usually comes to mind. But this grilled cheese-like sandwich will have you looking at breakfast in a whole new way. We load multi-grain wraps with a mixture of spiced apples, melted cheese and toasted walnuts. The result is a sweet and savory sandwich you'll want to make often!”


    • 1 pound Rome, Braeburn, Golden Delicious and/or Jonathan apples (3 medium), quartered, cored and thinly sliced
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
    • ⅓ cup tub-style light cream cheese, softened
    • 2 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded ( ½ cup)
    • 2 oval multi-grain wraps
    • ¼ cup chopped walnuts or slivered almonds, toasted
    • Nonstick cooking spray


  • 1 In a large skillet, combine apple slices, the water and allspice. Cook, covered, over medium heat about 6 minutes or just until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. Uncover; cook about 1 minute more or until liquid is evaporated. Spread cream cheese over wraps, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges. Top one half of each wrap with apple mixture. Sprinkle with white cheddar cheese and walnuts. Fold in half. Lightly coat the tops of the wraps with nonstick spray.
  • 2 Heat a 12-inch nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add wraps to the skillet, coated sides down. Coat tops of wraps with nonstick spray. Cook for 6 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned, turning once to brown both sides evenly.
  • 3 Cut into wedges to serve.
