Yummy! Pleasantly Surprised I must say after reading some of the reviews I had second thoughts about this recipe. However I made it today and it was delicious. This recipe is a keeper. I made minor adjustments to the recipe. I sprinkled cinnamon and sugar over the fruits (add to your taste). For the batter I used 2/3 cup of whole wheat flour and 1/3 cup of all purpose flour and 1/4 tsp baking soda.
Yummy but needed adjustments I loved it! I've never made a cobbler with wheat flour and it was a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure how well my family would like it since they like their desserts very sweet and rich but it's perfect for me. I made it with overripe grapes and apples. Yum! I suggest cooking your fruit on the stove with a little water. My cobbler only needed 35 minutes in the oven since my fruit was already cooked. I added extra baking powder (maybe 1/2 tsp more). The batter seemed a little dense so I added a little extra milk and some of the liquid from my cooked fruit. Pros: wheat flour tastes great low sugar Cons: fruit should be cooked before baking baking time too long
Awesome dessert! This was totally delicious warm and comforting. After reading some of the reviews a major complaint was that it was slightly lacking in sweetness. So I decided to be bad and increase the sugar a bit. The hearty serving of blueberries and peaches added nutritional goodness. I like the use of wheat flour in this.
Excellent! I made this today and it turned out great. I used blackcurrant berries and peaches. I also put a lot more berries than peaches because I simple had more. I love the flavor of this cobbler I think if there was more sugar it wouldn't have needed so much fruit. I always opt for fruit of course. One piece of this is enough if you are craving something sweet but don't want to go all the way and ruin your healthy diet plan. Pros: healthy fruity and not too sweet
Excellent! I made this today and it turned out great I used blackcurrants and peaches there weren't any good blueberries around. I think I put more berries and less peaches but that's all I had;) The taste is very balanced. I like that it's not a heavy sugary cobbler and one piece seems to settle any cravings. Made gluten free I modified recipe with a gluten free all purpose flour Earth Balance organic sugar and coconut oil. I also used 6 peaches b/c they were on the smallish side. It took an hour in oven. Batter a little chewy-ish. So much fruit to batter that it seemed a bit soggy but still a nice treat after dinner that I could convince myself was healthy. Pros: easy not too sweet Cons: a little chewy
Waste of fresh summer fruit It sounded good. I used organic blueberries I had picked with my husband along with fresh local peaches. The dough did not rise around the fruit as pictured and was tough and chewy. This recipe is not a keeper for me. Pros: Fruit dominates flavor in this recipe Cons: Dough is rubbery
Yuck! I made this with apple and a few raspberries the fruit was delicious. The batter however was not right it is neither clafoutis sweet Yorkshire pudding or pancake. Just stodge. I followed the recipe but surely this needs egg? Pros: The fruit was great Cons: The batter was a heavy soggy disaster.
Delicious Wow! I had some reservations about this recipe after reading some of the reviews but made it according to the recipe. The only deviation was that I used 5 1/2 cups of a mix of frozen fruit that contained peaches blueberries and strawberries. This definitely did not taste like bread with fruit to me. I keep my whole wheat flour in the fridge it makes a difference. Pros: Easy to make. Moist and delicious without being overly sweet.
It between great and awesome! I made this for company after we picked 18.5 lbs of organic blueberries. It was a big hit by all. Not overly sweet and was able to taste the natural sweetness from the fruit. Will definitely be making this one again. Pros: not too sweet flavorful
Everyone loved it I served it with Vanilla ice cream. It's not too sweet but I actually like that about the cobbler. I am watching my sugars so I think this uses way less than other recipies will definitely make this again!
I great healthy version if you can only eat one piece;). I used 2.5 tablespoons of butter and with the oil you can still taste the butter so I may cut it down to 2 tablespoons and I used brown sugar as well. The next time I am going to mix the blueberries into the batter just to see how that is. Overall a great dish where you an experience with different fruits. Can you say cranberries?!
Made this over and over using plums instead of peaches as I am allergic to them. I also used whole wheat "InstaBake" by Hodgson's Mills for the flour mixture brown sugar and Olivio and Brummel and Brown instead of butter. No one missed the butter! This is one of my most-requested Sunday brunch favorites and easy to assemble and bake.
I made this first in 2008 now I make it every year. I substitute Smart Balance for the butter. I also use buttermilk instead of whole fat milk and we serve it with vanilla frozen yogurt. My husband is lactose intolerant but he has no problem eating it with the substitutions. It has become a family favorite.
So easy and less sloppy than traditional cobbler. I only had vanilla soy milk so I used it instead of the milk and vanilla. The substitute worked and I may have finally found a non-chocolate dessert that my husband likes too!
just wow. awesome. we're not chocolate eaters so desserts aren't a big deal in my house but this recipe has me excited. cast iron skillet whole wheat packed with fruit and serves a group. Usually i think of gooey sugary canned pie-filling-like crud with a soggy limp biscuit topping when it comes to cobbler. Not here. I just keep adding fruit on top of the batter until i can't find any more spots to put it. I found you can go a little lighter on the sugar and leave it in the oven for a few more moments until the edge gets crispy. It's also forgiving of slightly under ripe peaches. Everyone who's had it is always surprised it's whole wheat - a good thing in my book. Then they ask for the recipe. I've made this 3 times so far this summer and i plan on making it as often as possible before the fruits season is over. I leave it on the counter covered with a tea towl and make eyes at it as i pass just waiting until after dinner when i can pop it back into the oven to warm up. It keeps this way for a few days. Serve warm with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream. My partner a man of few words gave it the review of " but if i eat this piece there will only be three pieces left". Couldn't have said it better.
HORRIBLE! Not enough fruit and when you add more - mush. MAYBE a good breakfast but I would not serve it to any guests for a desert. Give me a little piece of the real thing once in a while then something that tastes of bad wheat bread with a little fruit.
I used whole wheat pastry flour 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons of canola oil. Next time I will use only 1 TBS of each. I live at high altitude (6 200 feet) so I increased the milk by a little (I used non-fat) reduced the baking powder by a little more than 1/4 teaspoon and the sugar by a few tablespoons. The cobbler came out perfectly and I served it to guests - it was a big hit. This is a great recipe!
didn't rise this did not turn out good. it didn't rise AT ALL!!! it could have been that my baking powder was old.....VERY disappointed as i used blueberries & blackberries that i picked myself last summer...
Fool me once Everything went according to plan but the taste just was not there. You have to make concessions for it being a wheat flour less butter and sugar etc. but even so I think it was a waste of time to try this recipe. I'm isappointed but at least this is the only recipe I've tried so far on this website that I didn't like! That's pretty good! I would never make this for company!
Just Not Sweet I always use whole wheat flour so that didn't impact the recipe but it did not hit the mark on sweetness. I topped it with whipped topping but that only helped a bit. If I made this again I would add a lot more sugar. That would completely negate the health factor of this dessert so I doubt I'll be making it again. Pros: Healthy treat Cons: Not sweet tasting
Need more info I loved it! I like the taste of whole wheat flour over white anyway. I did substitute splenda fat free milk and smart balance for the butter - tasted great but would love to know how that changed the nutritional info. Also it doesn't indicate the size of a serving. meh i used soy milk instead of regular milk because it was for people who are lactose intolerant. i don't know if this affected the taste at all but this recipe could have been better. even thought the first bite is good after you let it settle for a second the wheat after taste kills the fun of a cobbler. not worth an hours wait. only good in small bites not even the vanilla ice cream could mask the after taste bummer. what a waste of blueberries. Pros: easy to make fast healthy Cons: mediocre taste not as amazing as hoped
It's okay. Won't use this recipe again though. It's okay. After reading other reviews I added more sugar and some splenda and also put splenda on the peaches. The fruit was good but the dough didn't rise around the fruit and it took well over an hour before the dough was cooked through but it still had a little bit of a raw bitter taste to it. Seems like the batter is missing something. Egg? Pros: Easy Cons: Not sweet enough took forever to cook didn't rise well
