Get your daily dose of dark leafy greens any time of day with this delicious green smoothie. Ground flaxseed adds omega-3s. Pour any extra into a freezer-pop mold and have it later as a frozen green smoothie pop.

  • 2 ripe medium bananas
  • 1 ripe pear or apple, peeled if desired, chopped
  • 2 cups chopped kale leaves, tough stems removed (see Notes)
  • ½ cup cold orange juice
  • ½ cup cold water
  • 12 ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed (see Notes)

  1. Place bananas, pear (or apple), kale, orange juice, water, ice cubes and flaxseed in a blender. Pulse a few times, then puree until smooth, scraping down the sides as necessary.
  • Choose organic kale when possible. Nonorganic can have high pesticide residue.
  • Look for ground flaxseeds (or flaxmeal) in the natural-foods section of large supermarkets or in natural-foods stores. Store in the refrigerator or freezer.

I believe that health comes with healthy food. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the prices for that value. I believe I've found the solution here

My first green smoothie I love this recipe, it's delicious and i'm impressed for my first go at a green smoothie. It makes me want to try others too. The consistency I think will depend on your blender. I used a magic bullet for mine and had to first blend it, then switch to the puree blade to finish it off, but it came out really smooth and a pretty shade of green that's not off putting at all. It tastes a lot like strawberries and bananas to me and my 3 year old(even though there's no strawberries in it). Drinking it, it's not too thick and not chunky (again, it probably depends on the blender you use). I believe if my 3 year old loves this then probably any kid would if they could get past the look of it. Really great thank you! Pros: tastes delicious, super easy to make, not expensive for ingredients Cons: no cons

VOMIT? Does any one else's look like vomit I don't know what I did wrong?! It tastes good but unless I close my eyes its hard to stomach..

One Word - Delicious This was my first green smoothie. My husband and I enjoyed it tremendously. I realized too late that we were out of orange juice - so I squeezes a blood orange and a tangerine (that was all I had) and supplemented a little mire liquid with water to get 1/2 cup. My banannas were very ripe. We loved it! Pros: Wonderful ingredients and no dairy Cons: Gone too soon

Great smoothie! I used unsweetened coconut milk instead of the water and it was very yummy. My teenager son and 4 year old twins loved it. I would probably add more flax seed next time.

Great smoothie! I make it often and my husband even loves it. I love that it uses kale, because it is so healthy. Not too sweet. I wouldn't change a thing, except to add some coconut oil, which would not change the taste, only make it healthier.

I LOVE IT!! really yummy!! tastes more fruity than vegetable-y and it's not too sweet. i even pack the kale really tight and then some. the kale and banana go great with a granny smith, green and tart. kale is such a fantastic vegetable i am so pleased to have a new way of putting it into my diet. thank you :-)

Add some nutritional punch! This is a great start, but I like to punch up the nutritional value with fresh aloe vera. See for the myriad reasons why you definitely want aloe vera in your smoothies. shows you how to harvest the aloe gel. Here's a few more changes I would make: swap an avocado for one of the bananas to get more beneficial oils; a teaspoon of coconut oil would also be great. Add organic parsley and cilantro for detoxifying properties, and organic spinach for additional vitamins, minerals, and flavor. A few spoons of organic blueberries will add both sweetness and antioxidants (the organic really has twice the flavor, and thus nutrition, over the non-organic!). Sprinkle in some cinnamon for blood sugar control and flavor, add some xylitol for sweetness and to ward off cavity-causing bacteria, and a spoon of brewer's yeast (I like non-GMO products from Lewis Labs or Bluebonnet) for more B vitamins. If you have other green superfood powders like Vitamineral Green from or Pure Synergy from, add a spoon or two of that as well because those products have such a wide array of high quality greens and enzymes that you are not likely to source individually. Make sure the orange juice is fresh squeezed, as the pasteurized stuff is probably more poison than beneficial. The end product may not be quite as green looking, but t
