Very good alternative to a tomato sauce pizza I've made this several times first with the arugula second with a mixture of arugula and chopped fresh baby spinach and lastly baby spinach and baby kale along with some black olives mushrooms and sliced tomatoes and the broccoli. The last one was the best. Arugula tends to taste bitter to me so the combo of the spinach and kale worked well. I also used a store bought crust (the fresh kind) and that saves time in preparation. I use a lot of mozzarella cheese so the baking time is extended to 20 to 25 minutes. I should have taken a picture maybe next time. Pros: healthy yummy easy to make Cons: arugula can sometimes be bitter
Absolutely Delicious!! I made a few changes but it was AWESOME! I used spinach/kale mix instead of arugula. I added the spinach/kale mix after I drained the crisp-tender broccoli instead of wilting it. It wilted enough when mixed with hot broccoli. Everything else was per the recipe. Great for weeknights or company.
Pretty Good!! The first time I made this I followed the recipe exactly. I thought it very good. I tried it a 2nd time but used whole what flat break instead of pizza dough. I thought it was much better that way
Easy week night dish! I used Whole Foods whole wheat pizza dough broccoli spinach and artichoke hearts for this though I could see how arugula would work. Without the artichoke hearts I don't know if I'd care for this so much. I also added low-fat ricotta cheese and small clumps of goat cheese as I think they they compliment the other agreements much more than mozzarella. I definitely added more cheese than the recipe suggested but it was delicious so I can't complain! Pros: Versatile easily made your own Cons: Slightly boring on its own
Delicious Green Pizza This pizza was heavenly and I even burnt the crust! The pesto was the perfect base (not a big tomato sauce fan)...the broccoli cooked perfectly! Thought 6 cups of arugula was a little much so I scaled back...definitely won't do that again! That stuff shrinks to nothing once it's wilted! Used an arugula/spinach mix. Also mixed mozzarella and cheddar cheese because I'm a huge cheese fan. Also added tomatoes so good. Even with the burnt crust my boyfriend and I just scraped the top part off with out teeth! So delicious definitely doing again. Pros: Easy to prep & make cheap
Green Pizza I used a single prepared pizza crust and spread the bottom with pesto sauce. To that I added some herb and garlic spaghetti sauce. I did add the broccoli and red onions that I had on hand and then sprinkled a little bit of garlic powder and topped it with parmesan cheese! Delicioso! Pros: It was easy to make! Cons: I only had broccoli on hand so I added red onions!
A New Go-To Meal Love this recipe because it is easy yummy and I am always looking for new ways to get more greens into our family's diet. I gave it four stars but I like to add some goat cheese which pushes it to five stars in my opinion. I always make the Easy Whole Wheat Pizza Dough also on this site.
Healthy Pizza! I really liked this recipe. Unfortunately my husband hates any veggie that's green so I had to make the pizza half this recipe and the other half his cheese/pepperoni. Geez - those fussy eaters! Thanks for sharing! Pros: Green!
Simply Delicious! This recipe was simply fantastic! We recently started eating healthy and felt like we were cheating by eating something that tasted so good! Eating Well truly has helped us stick to eating well by providing us with so many good recipes! I added some tomatoes to mine just because I had some that were going to go bad if I did not use them! Oh and I added fresh rosemary to my pizza dough! I also LOVE that you provide the nutrition facts! You cant go wrong! Pros: Good tasting and good for you!
Very Cheap Very Easy Very good! I love this recipes it came out awesome! It was super easy to make and very yummy. I was afraid it maybe a little bland but it wasn't the pesto really added a lot of flavor and I scaled back the recipe since no one else in my household wanted to try it. It's a very easy meal to make if you are trying to accomidate people who don't want a green pizza you can simply put your stuff on one side and they can put more trditional toppings on the other and everyone wins. Next time if I have leftovers from the previous day I may add some chicken too it. Pros: A good way to get veggies Cons: I had to roll out dough but it wasn't as much work as I thought it would be.
We also used spinach instead of arugula. I don't normally consider a pizza a pizza unless it has tomato sauce and gobs of cheese but this was truly delicious. And I finally used the pizza stone that I've kept in the box for years. Great recipe!
I loved this recipe! I agree that the fresh dough makes the house smell fantastic! I made this recipe as written and wow! I agree! One of the best pizzas I've ever had! And I made it!!! My husband who's a die-hard traditional pizza fan actually tried it and thought it was decent. And that means a lot from a guy who grew up in an Italian area where homemade pizzas were a stone's throw away!!! Permanent addition to our menu! THANKS!
I used a mix of spinach and arugula and then followed the recipe. If it wasn't for the pesto this would be tasteless but then again I don't like pesto sandwiches. I see no possible redemption from trying to fix it.
I love homemade pizza and this recipe is a great combination! I used my own trusty wheat dough recipe and made my own pesto-- but pre-prepared would make this a fast recipe. Try adding goat cheese instead of mozzerrella for a yummy twist
I made this using steam fresh broccoli and replaced the arugula with fresh sliced tomatos. With those changes there is no stove top cooking and it is really fast to make/clean up. It is a great way to enjoy getting a serving of vegetables. And I think next time I will use 1/2 or 3/4 lb of wheat pizza dough to make a thinner crust. Very tasty! I will certainly be making it again soon!
Oh this was the best we used spinich in place ofthe arugula added freash mushrooms onions tomatoes goat cheese green peppers ring peppers beets and black olives and yes feta cheese also oh my it was wonderful.one downfall my husband said no more tradishenel pizzzzzzza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But thats ok were in our 60s and this is alot better for our health. Thanks once again all.
I just tossed raw broccoli florets with a bit of olive oil then topped the crust with roasted garlic (spread with a knife) sliced grape tomatoes (squeezed to get the seeds out) cheese the broccoli onions dried oregano & red pepper flakes then when the pizza is done I take it out and spread the arugula (also tossed with olive oil and parm cheese) on top and put it back in the oven for less than one minute. This keeps the arugula bright green (and the broccoli too) and preserves much more of the nutrients.
My only change to this recipe was to use spinach instead of argula and it was fantastic just as the recipe was written. After reading some of the other comments and suggestions i will definitely try it again with extra additions!
I've made this recipe three times. The first time I used the pesto andmy 5yr old didn't take to it so I made another pizza wo the pesto and it turned out just as good. I also used spinach which use alot of instead of lettuce.
When I first saw this pizza I was a little skeptical. We're not really big on veggies in my family but we do love our pizza! I ended up using PIllsbury pizza dough since I couldn't find any whole wheat dough and used Basil Garlic Pesto for a little more flavor. It was a hit! We all loved it! Great recipe!
This has become a family favorite. To make it a little more child friendly we use spinach instead of arugula and mix cheddar cheese in with the mozzarella. We recently served this to guests with picky young eaters and they gobbled it up!
I love this Green Pizza especially with homemade thin whole wheat pizza crust! I make the dough in my food processor the night before. I add other green veggies like peas spinach and artichokes and I like to add goat cheese or feta cheese and a sprinkle of crushed red pepper.
Loved it I love making @ home pizza and was looking for something a little more creative than typical pizza combinations aka pepperoni & cheese. I also made some lemon-marinated chicken and added it to the toppings. Will def make again
My boyfriend hugged me for this one and he doesn't even like veggies! The first time I tried this my boyfriend grabbed me afterward and looked me in the eyes and told me that it "was some of the best food he's ever tasted..." and then hugged me. He doesn't even usually eat veggies. I added feta turkey kielbasa sausage and mushrooms to the pizza. This recipe is definitely a new staple in our household. I guess the downside is that the pizza was so good we caught each other sneaking to the kitchen in the night to eat the leftovers! Pros: Easy; Healthy; Delicious Cons: The crust can be expensive
Yummy! I made this last night and it was a hit. Even the kids loved it. I used about half the recommended amount of the pesto (because it is very high in fat and calories) and it still turned out great! A little pesto goes a long way. I used a mixture of spinach and arugula instead of all arugula. I also used reduced fat crescent rolls for the crust because I had them on hand. Pros: Great way to get your veggies! Cons: Should have taken the dough out earlier on the first baking. It got a little crisp.
Tasty veggie pizza I think 3.5 stars seems more appropriate but they don't allow half star ratings. I think this is a solid recipe. It was easy to make. I added some goat cheese but think even just using more mozzarella like the recipe required would be better. The suggestion for the tomato salad accompanied it nicely. I would definitely make this again.
