Just change it to suit I used Mrs Dash and some other salt free options. I browned the onions in butter spray till they turned golden; I used Low Fat Plain Greek yogurt; Added some fresh parsley I used apple cider vinegar. I also strained my yogurt overnight in a strainer lined with coffee filter to make it like cream cheese. Just be a little creative and you could surprise your self.. Pros: A recipe is just a guid and make it your very own. Cons: use salt alternative fresh herbs to bump up flavors
I would replace sour cream & beef soup 1. make changes you can live with.. Use different spices onion powder parsley flakes couple of shots of hot sauce. Things to make it taste better for you...Think people you would be surprised what happens when you do this. all recipes are a base and you expand on it. Pros: I would use Greek Low Fat yogurt I would saute my onions in butter flavor spray add some dry spice Cons: it was bland I just bumped up add ins to make it beter
Nice Heathly Rich Dip; key is to let it set. This dip is a little time consuming to make so it's not a quick dip. I'll usually make it when I'm in the kitchen leisurely. I'll also use white wine vinegar instead of regular white vinegar. I don't understand why some reviews say it lacks flavor- the onions cooked in beef broth and full of flavor on their own! The key is to let is set overnight or a few hours so the yogurt/sour cream and blend with the onion. Definitely a compliment dip! Pros: Great flavor healthy. Cons: A little time consuming but worth it.
I tried this recipe for the first time when I was going to be serving a large crowd...it was a total bust. The flavors were dull and I felt like I needed to add a mound of salt to get any sufficient flavor in it. I would've been better off using the packaged stuff...
This recipe was a huge hit at a party for which I was doing a cooking demo. Nobody would have guessed that it was low fat/calorie/etc. Yes I did add more salt (not loads though and it was kosher salt which does make a difference). I'm so glad that I finally have a good dip recipe to bring to parties!
I was not a fan of this recipe. While it is definitely healthier I felt it lacked in flavor. I had to add quite a bit of salt and even that didn't help much. Go with a healthy spinach & artichoke dip instead- you can make that healthier too without killing all the flavor.
Better than store-bought I made this for our New Year's get together to serve with fresh veggies. I hadn't read the recipe thoroughly and didn't realize how time consuming it was...especially with everything else I was preparing. It turned out really good and I would make it again - but probably only if I were bringing it to a party...and it were the only thing I were bringing. It's too time consuming for a big party. I used low-fat canned beef broth instead of reduced-sodium and didn't even have to add any additional salt. Also used garlic powder instead of onion powder because it's what I had on hand. Pros: Tasty low fat Cons: Time consuming
