Not sure people get that is a topper not a main course this is what Mexican restaurants use to add variety to texture our local restaurant adds bell paper and celery so did I. I could add this to my meals daily and not even feel guilty.
I'm not sure that some of these reviewers have had Mexican cole slaw before. Not everything labeled Mexican is hot and spicy. I've had this many times in Mexican restaurants along with the traditional chips and salsa. It's not spicy. I might go along with adding just a bit of red onion but this is the real deal here in the West.
Love it! We love this as is. But for those looking for a little sweetness we tried adding jicama to it yesterday. I thought it was a nice addition and all three kids loved it that way. Pros: Great alternative to mayo filled coleslaw
Nothing Special What makes this Mexican the cilantro? We found it so boring! I took the reviews of others and added tomatoes jalapeno and a little lime now that made it Mexican and so much better! Pros: It's the base for add ins
Great Tex Mex side Great side dish! We love Asian/Sesame Coleslaw and now love the Tex Mex version! We added 2 diced partly seeded jalapenos (we love spice) cumin and some zero calorie sweetener. We had shrimp tacos with it but next time could put it right inside the taco! Pros: No mayo easy quick
Great for summer picnics and potlucks (no mayo egg dairy). I add radishes a little lime juice and some cumin to make it a bit more flavorful. Not only great with Tex-Mex even compliments Asian Turkey Burgers.
I loved the recipe. Reminds me of home. I would consider using champagne or apple cidar vinegar instead of rice vinegar and grapeseed oil instead of olive oil (it brings out the flavor of the cilantro cabbage and carrots more. Toss in just a bit of black pepper and if you prefer just a bit of spice a pinch of red chili powder (usually comes in mild hot and very hot).
Yuuuuummy! New favorite slaw recipe! Per another reviewer I added a little cumin fresh lime juice & extra cilantro....& also shredded radishes. The flavor is sooo good. I would have never thought to put cilantro in slaw (although we love it) but it is fabulous! Great recipe!
Horrible This recipe was so bad we ended up throwing it away. Everyone tried it and no one liked it. The cilantro was overpowering and the base texture was unappetizing. Pros: None Cons: disliked flavor and texure
