Our more sophisticated version of crunchy party mix gets its irresistible, rich taste from olive oil and a bit of Parmesan cheese rather than the better part of a stick of butter, or worse, margarine. With two-thirds less fat (none of it saturated) you can forget about that other stuff.

  • 4 cups mixed Rice and Wheat Chex cereals
  • 2 cups mini pretzels
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix cereals, pretzels, Parmesan, garlic salt, onion powder, pepper and cayenne in a large bowl. Toss with oil and Worcestershire. Spread on a lightly oiled baking sheet.
  3. Bake, stirring often, until toasted, 40 minutes.

Was very good!!!! I will use it a lot as a go to snack in between meals or on the road. I did add a lil more W sauce and made it taste so good!!!

Wish I read the comments first, as yes, I burned the cheese following the recipe. But felt the spice/heat was nice and I added popcorn and toasted walnuts for more texture and interest. Will definitly try again.

Healthy & Yummy Very tasty! I followed other reviewers advice and baked @ 300 for about 15 - 20 minutes, perfect! Also, I did not add extra salt, I used plain garlic powder, the salt from pretzels and parm cheese was enough. What I love about this is it can be tweaked to meet your family's likes. I used Chex Multi-Bran and Cheerios. I also added sunflower seeds and a bit of old fashioned oats. This will be a staple snack in my house. Thanks for the recipe! Pros: Way better than prepackaged party mix Cons: Watch the temp, 300 is good.

If at first you burn the snack mix... 350 for 40 minutes is way too hot and way too long for my small oven. I did the first 10 minutes between 350 and 325 and it had already started to burn. I only cooked it for 20 minutes total, the last 10 minutes way down to 250 degrees, but it was too late and the majority of the mix was burned. The bits that were NOT burned, however, were tasty. I really wanted some snack mix so I tried again right away, cooking at only 200 degrees for 20 minutes, stirring every 4 minutes. 24 minutes might have been OK too if I had wanted them toastier (but still not burned!). The second try was a success! Tasty snack! Pros: The cayenne is a great touch. Cons: You need to be really, really familiar with your oven.

Jazzy JoJo's I did add some plain almonds and I also added garlic powder. This recipe has nice spice and was a hit at our holiday open house. The leftovers are very hard to resist. Adding some plain Cheerios would also be tasty and add a different texture. I will be making this again! Pros: Easy

I just made it, a few comments: It will burn if you cook it at 350 - you are better off at 300. Also, I only cooked it for 20 minutes. I also added about 1/4 cup of raw almonds (yum), I know it bumps up the calories, but well worth it. Other than these few tweeks, it is a tasty reciepe, I will make it again.

To anonymous, so is your comments BORING "okay" too, unless you could provide a better recipe. Better luck next time and may be you're new to this healthy tasting snack.

The recipe was just "okay". I guess I should have known with the short list of ingredients that it would be a little boring. The seasoning on it was okay, but with only the cereal and pretzels it got boring fast. There are several other things that could be added to make it more appealing, but that is all personal preference.
