Delicious! I have made this meal multiple times. Its easy inexpensive and DELICIOUS! My husband approves as well. The cinnamon and cumin really are the key ingredients that make this dish. Pros: flavorful easy filling
Love this! I absolutely love the orange fruit in this dish!! All of the flavors blend so well together. I used two chicken breasts and shredded them with a fork before adding them back for the last time. I also used more crushed tomatoes. Next time I'm going to use more spices. I also used brown rice instead of cous cous. I loved this dish and I will definitely make it again! Pros: This is a healthy great tasting recipe; I especially LOVE the orange fruit in this dish.
Healthy and Delicious! I was looking for something fun to do with some leftover chicken and I found this and decided to try it out! I did change up the recipe a little as I left out the chickpeas forgot the cilantro and used chicken drumsticks instead. I loved being able to eat the orange rind. Letting the orange slices cook in the juice softened them up and added flavor perfectly. It was a different taste than I expected but I thought it was perfect for the dish (Also it some added vitamins! There are so many great vitamins in the rind!) Tip - The recipe suggests boneless chicken thighs but if you choose to use bone-in chicken thighs or legs cook it for a bit longer. I had to bake the chicken legs for a while after I finished the rest of the dish as they weren't fully cooked. Pros: Easy Healthy Tastey & Interesting Flavor Combination Fun to make
Simple and nice mix of flavors I made this recipe tonight for BF and myself. It was a hit. It had a very nice mixture of flavors that you wouldn't expect to go together (cumin and orange?) but they all complimented nicely. I took the advice of some other posters and peeled and de-pithed the orange also adding some of the zest. I also doubled all of the spices and added quite a bit of cayenne pepper (we love spicy foods). The cayenne gave it a nice little kick that I think really made the dish into something special. BF suggested white wine and hot sauce as additions next time which I will definitely try. This is a keeper and a great way to do something new with boring chicken. Pros: Simple ingredients easy to make
Good week-night meal. I really enjoyed this recipe. I followed the other reviews and decided to grate the orange rind. I added the zest to the pot peeled the orange and then sliced it. Very nice flavour with the orange cumin and cinnamon. Next time I'll halve the amount of couscous and probably add more orange slices... Pros: Easy tasty different
I Loved it I thought this recipe is awesome. I added the orange rind and thought they were good I think the key to not being to bitter is to slice them thin and make sure your orange is ripe.... I will be making this again
Great (almost) one pot meal We really enjoyed this meal and found it quite flavorful unlike some of the other reviewers. Even our three year old enjoyed it. My spice quotient might have been on par because I had only six chicken thighs instead of the called for eight. I didn't have chickpeas so I substituted in a can of great northern beans which worked great. I skipped the cilantro because I'm allergic. Also I was a little short on couscous so I used just under a cup. I was worried about using less couscous but the sauce was great and not wet so perhaps the beans soaked up more than I realized. I will definitely make this again. Pros: One pot except for side veggie or salad
Delicious recipe I loved this recipe other than as most others have mentioned the orange rind. It might be nice to decorate with but it's bitter. I loved the orange flavour though it went well with the cinnamon so definitely zest the oranges and use the flesh. I ended up with a whole lot of couscous mixture might want to cut that back as well. Finally I made this with lamb chops instead of chicken thighs excellent substitution. Pros: healthy delicious light Cons: orange peel too much couscous
Good Start Could use some tweaks I've enjoyed Moroccan dishes before and this was consistent with those but much easier to make than another recipe I'm familiar with. I used bone-in thighs and they took MUCH longer to cook than the recipe says. I found this very frustrating. I also found it slightly on the bland side. Partially because I didn't have access to cilantro I think. (I did use coriander in addition to the spices it called for to compensate for this.) Another time I'd try one or more of the following changes: -replace some of the chicken broth with orange juice; I thought a stronger orange flavor would have helped. -add some chopped dates for some contrasting sweetness -add a little cayenne or aleppo pepper or a dash or two of hot sauce for just a little kick The chick-peas were fine but I don't think they are strictly necessary. On the other hand the chicken could be left out (and the chick peas kept in) for a good vegetarian dish with a fairly complete protein. Pros: Easy Healthy A Change of Pace Cons: Took longer to cook than stated; a little bland
not worth trying I used the boneless thighs and the cooking time was accurate for them. I found the cooked oranges a bit bitter and think it would have been better to zest the orange and segment it to remove the bitter white pith. Of course that would take more time. I liked the other review's idea to add some OJ. That might have helped. I had the cilantro and it wasn't enough. Something was missing not sure what it needed though. Pros: instructions were accurate Cons: just not that good
Easy Mediterranean Chicken Liked the recipe but I would tweak it a bit next time. I would definately leave out the orange rinds - although the are soft enough to eat I found them bitter and picked them out. I agree with another review I would add orange juice to pop up the orange flavor and maybe just use orange zest. I dont like dark meat so I used boneless skinless breasts which worked fine. I agree with an other reviewer that one could leave out the chicken and make it vegetarian but I would increase the chickpeas. Pros: Easy quick meal Cons: Bitter orange rinds
S'okay... not spectacular I used 8 s/b-less chicken thighs two small blood oranges that were lingering in my 'fridge a couple cloves of garlic minced and only 1 tbsp of EVOO. I removed the zest from the oranges (cuz I didn't like the idea of cooking the peel) added it with the minced garlic when I added the remainder of the spices. Roughly chopped the orange flesh. Smells wonderful! Flavour is great although the texture is kinda mushy. Didn't actually eat it the same day. We'll have this tomorrow reheated which gives the flavours an opportunity improve.:o) Pros: Healthy; light on the meat. Fresh orange flavour Cons: Put the chicken in... take it out... put it in... take it out - repeat!
Not a well-thought out recipe I can't imagine anyone making this recipe and then thinking it good enough to put on this website. The rinds from the oranges is bitter and it makes no sense to leave it in. The rest of the recipe is okay but like others said it was a little bland. Cons: not a good idea to leave the orange rind in
