We loved this! Made more than the recipe and good thing because both of us finished it with our second helpings. I used 1lb hot Italian chicken sausage 8oz Cavatappi about 4 cups of spinach half cup of halved cherry tomatoes added a sliced red onion with the garlic while browning the sausage. The sauce I eyeballed - about a cup of grated real parm maybe 5-6 tablespoons pasta cooking liquid and a quick drizzle of olive oil s&p. Will definately make again!
Are these the right proportions? I just don't see how you get 2 2-cup servings out of this. I'm on weight watchers and measure everything precisely. It looked so small in the pan cooking 4 oz of sausage all that spinach and tomatoes. My final product fit on a tiny 8 dessert plate. There was not 4 cups of food. Pros: Tastes great very easy to make Cons: I only ended up with about 2 cups of food total not 2 2-cup servings
Flavorful small changes This was a hit with the whole family. I made two substitutions: Chicken instead of sausage. Fresh basil instead of arrugula. It was yummy and easy to make. Is it still considered healthy if the kids go back for seconds? Pros: Easy to make Cons: Not an arugala fan
Easy and Delicious I can't stand whole wheat pasta so I used regular organic. I also only added 2 cups of arugala because 4 cups looked like a lot! I also just added the cheese mixture and the pasta to the pan that had the sausage mixture and tossed it all together (I didn't want to dirty another dish!) Very tasty and filling! Pros: Easy tasty healthy
Staple This is one of my husband's favorite dishes and is in our dinner rotation about once every 2 weeks. I follow the recipe aside from doubling the amount of cherry tomatoes and never have issues with the cheese clumping. Pros: Delicious good amount of spice easy to make
Delicious and easy! I have made this multiple times using mild italian sausage instead of hot (we aren't a fan of a lot of spice) and it is always very flavorful. Using good cheese makes it even better- although parmesan will still do the trick.
This is a very easy recipe. I used shells because that's what I had on hand. I over-did the water in the parm b/c I though it would be too dry. Now mixed with the pan juices my dish is a little runny but that's ok. I think it would work well with any ground meat not just Italian sausage.
This dish was fast easy and fantastic! Everyone in the house LOVED it! We dont eat meat so i substituted veggie sausage it was amazing! Its very important to follow the recipe so that it comes out right definitly use the italian cheese that it calls for NOT parm...makes a huge difference!
I had the same issue as others with the cheese clumping into one big mess. So I instead added a little cheese at a time directly to the pasta. I got better results. Overall the flavor was good but not great. My picky boyfriend enjoyed it though so for those who like the less healhty food this is a good way to sneak in some healthiness. I think if the sauce was a lighter garlic parmesean sauce it would taste better than a thicker cheese sauce. http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0 1658 133176-254197 00.html
