This twist on the Latin American staple is made healthier with lean ground turkey and crisp apples. It doubles well. Try tucking it into whole-wheat tortillas or serve over instant brown rice for a quick and healthy supper.

  • 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces 99%-lean ground turkey
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 medium tart green apple, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup chopped tomato
  • 3 tablespoons chopped green olives
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup sliced scallion greens

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook until soft, stirring often, about 2 minutes. Add turkey; cook, stirring and breaking up, until lightly browned, 4 to 6 minutes.
  2. Stir in cumin, oregano, salt, pepper and cloves; cook for 30 seconds. Stir in vinegar, scraping up any browned bits. Stir in apple, tomato, olives and Worcestershire sauce. Reduce heat and gently simmer, stirring often, until any liquid in the pan has reduced to a syrupy glaze, about 8 minutes. Stir in scallion greens and serve.

I thought this was a surprisingly good recipe. We didnt have any olives and used honey crisp apples. We put it in wraps with swiss cheese and spinach, and it was great!

This recipe came out delicious. I used 1lb of turkey instead of the 8oz and just doubled the ingredients that were listed here. I truly enjoyed this. The meat was tender and juicy. I served it brown rice. I will definitely make this again.

i liked cooking this recipes i thought it would be bland , but i added some sweetcorn and chilli powder spice to give it alittle kick and a tbsp of sour cream and it was lovely.

Fast and easy recipe! I substituted the ground turkey for spicy turkey sausage. It added a bit more of a kick to the dish. I didn't have cloves on hand but honestly didn't miss it. The added scallions gave it a beautiful complete look! I served it on top of vegetable quinoa.

Not bad.. This was an ok recipe, a little bland, so I added a little tomato paste and some red wine. Pros: easy to make Cons: a little bland

Soooooooo good!! I make 6 servings of this recipe and have it for lunch at work the entire week. I've just changed my diet to start eating healthier and low calorie and this works well. It's quick and easy. I just love it! Thanks eating well Pros: The mixture of flavors Cons: Nothing

Surprisingly Good :) I was very skeptical of this recipe especially with the apple but tried it and was pleasantly surprised. It was very tasty! I doubled the recipe (exceptions- for the oil left it as is, no cloves since I didn't have cloves, used Gala apples and added some red pepper flakes bc I love spicy food ). Pros: Easy to make

Awful, just plain awful I'm a very good cook and can usually salvage dishes that miss the mark. There was nothing that could save this mess. The flavors were battling each other and no one came out a winner. Pros: fiber for the disposal
