Very good smoothie to start the day with. I used frozen strawberries that I let thaw a biit yogurt instead of tofu and about half the sugar. Added everything to my VitaMix and gave it a whirl. Great tasting and like that it is such a versatile recipe. Made and reviewed for the Alphabet Recipe Tag Game.
Such a great recipe! I loved it just the way it is though have tweaked a bit here and there occasionally. First I never use sugar of any sort in almost any recipes. I raise bees and only use fresh organic honey in recipes. Also depending on my energy level that morning I may add a bit of kale or spinach for a bit more energy. Also the only reason that this recipe doesn't have 5 stars respectively is because there are two or three reviews who gave it a 1 star rating for the worst reasons: Case #1: "Breakfast smoothie is not good for diabetics too many carbs and sugar in Orange juice and berries." - if you are a HEALTHY diabetic and take care of what you put into your body then you know what you can and cannot eat. There are hundreds of thousand of diabetes-friendly recipes on the internet that you can try. If you come across one that doesn't work...and DOES NOT CLAIM TO BE DIABETES-FRIENDLY then just pass on it to another recipe. Don't go off on a tyrant of how unhealthy it is for someone with diabetes. Case #2: " Don't use Soy or Splenda Soy is GMO very dangerous to your health as is Splenda which is a neurotoxin. Better to use one date honey or Stevia as a sweetener. Omit soy; use banana or chia seeds as thickener. Pros: Soy & Soy products are detrimental to health. Spenda is aneurotoxin Cons: Berries are healthy" Though I agree with you on the soy and the splenda there is no need to be a jerk about the fact that they added it on the recipe. But the ki
Great for kids It was very delicious! For a healthier option I didn't use the sugar. My child thought it was tart and needed sugar but she drank it anyway. I thought it was wonderful but don't recommend Splenda:) add some honey maybe instead.. Pros: Good taste Cons: Needs something
My New Morning Routine I blend this recipe up every morning in lieu of coffee (and it's a lot faster than waiting for a pot to brew). It keeps my appetite satisfied until lunch keeps my mind awake and alert until well after lunch-- I'd suggest adding some kale & spinach to bring down the tartness of the berries and add some extra nutrients! I also omit the sugar! Pros: filling sweet energy easy quick cheap
Tasty but missing something I doubled the recipe & used only strawberries. I forgot to freeze the fresh strawberries last night so I added some ice. Instead of sugar I used honey. I thought the smoothie was good but one of the children said it was missing something & another said it could use some sugar (that one has a sweet tooth!) I brought out their packages of Emergen-C that I normally put in their smoothies & after adding that they had no complaints! Added my ZipFizz for extra energy & vitamins to mine & called it a meal! Perfect! Cons: A tad bitter
Delicious! I made this the night before work for my partner and I. I doubled the ingredients and got 2x 500mL cups and 1x 300mL. I had the 300mL this morning and feel satisfied and awake. It is a great way to start the day! I will be making again! Instead of tofu I put in Symbio yoghurt and I left out the sugar Pros: Taste Very filling Great start to the day
Don't use Soy or Splenda Soy is GMO very dangerous to your health as is Splenda which is a neurotoxin. Better to use one date honey or Stevia as a sweetener. Omit soy; use banana or chia seeds as thickener. Pros: Soy & Soy products are detrimental to health. Spenda is aneurotoxin Cons: Berries are healthy
Great but I added... This was excellent...but I added a tad bit more orange juice and a small handful of spinach and a carrot with no real change in taste...just added nutrients! Pros: Delicious Cons: None
Refreshing! Been making a variation of this for myself each morning for many years. I use plain low fat probiotic yogurt no sugar or sweetener and lots of frozen fruit. I have even frozen banana chunks so I never run out of them. Sometimes I will add flax seed. Has to be cold! My granddaughter loves making her own. Pros: Very refreshing tasty healthy
Good smoothie! I didn't have orange juice at the time but I had the frozen stuff (I can't remember what its called exactly but it comes in a little can like thing and is frozen) and I added that instead. It tasted great! Instead of adding plain yogurt (I know this wasn't the healthiest idea) I added some raspberry yogurt and that made it sweeter and I liked the taste. My little sister really liked it as well. Pros: healthy tasty quick Cons: slightly tart
Not Diabetic friendly How is added sugar good for diabetes... and orange juice that is full of sugar plus berries have a natural sugar in them. I substituted orange juice for cooled green tea added no extra sugar as berries were sweet enough... next time I'll add some plain greek yoghurt to try something different...
Not quite balanced To be a complete breakfast I added vegetable protein powder ground flax seed used a full cup of low fat soy milk and only one cup of orange juice. One needs at least 10 grams of protein at a meal to be complete not 3. The actual fruit (the orange) would add more fiber than the juice alone. And 33 carbs is higher than the recommended 30 per meal. Pros: Tastes good fruit servings Cons: Insufficient protein needs more fiber
Add this Add half a banana and half an apple and 3 or 4 baby carrots but no sugar. It adds to the fiber and vitamins count and it tastes amazing! I use fresh berries usually so I add a few ice cubes to make it feel like a super cold smoothie.
So Yummy! Is very easy to make! I made it at night so I could just grab and go in the morning! Very tasty I didn't add the sugar and used nonfat yogurt! I will definitely make it again! Pros: Tasty Fruity Easy
Add bananas! I add bananas to mine instead of sugar! It adds the sweetness that you need without the sugar! And also spinach! I don't eat spinach ever! But a handful in your smoothie you can't taste at all and you get your extra nutrients! My 8 yr old son drinks the smoothies and didn't know it was in there till I told him!!
Good Morning Smoothie:) This was delicious! Frozen Raspberries Black Berries & Cherries Frozen Pineapple bits 1 banana Organic Pulp Free Orange Juice 1/4-1/2 tsp of Vanilla Extract YUMMY!!:) no sugar no dairy!
I just dont have alot of food in my house. To be honest i really needed something more easy it seemed like all the ingredients were the stuff that arnt in my house. I dont think i have 1 ingredient from that list.:( My family dosnt have any food in the house... except for like canned food. No milk or cereal no cheese nothing. I just wish there was something more Easy for my morning. We were literly tearing apart the house for money...... i really think this was a waste of time to read this. I am dissapointed i really thought i would like this.:'( but on the bright side i think it looks beautiful and i LOVE ur train of thought on the strawberries!:)
Some minor adjustments I didn't add sugar or OJ. I added a tablespoon of flaxseed and a fist-full of spinach (I try to sneak in spinach whenever I can because I hate the taste). Much better!:) Pros: Fruity and filling Cons: sugar
Fruity and Delicious This smoothie is very delicious. I enjoyed making it besides the blender sound. The only bad.thing for me was the overwhelming banana taste. You cam barely taste the strawberries. Pros: Healthy tasty Cons: Alot of banana taste
Fruity Great-Tasting Filling We made this for breakfast today and we loved it. We doubled the recipe to make enough for four people and we had plenty! We used orange juice frozen blueberries fresh blackberries two fresh bananas non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt and two small packets of Stevia. Pros: Easy to whi up fun for the kids to help with kids thought it was delicious Cons: Nothing
sorry for the re-post but i forgot to add that the OJ is a little strong so im leaving out the extra 1/4 cup this mourning which will make is thicker (yummy) but you can also try apple juice with some ground flax seed for a good fiber drink too i have tried it it's good just don't go over board with the flax seed or you will be eating the drink haha
this is super good and easy (except the cleaning the blender part lol) what the heck is that sugar in the recipe for that's just silly. its plenty sweet enough as if we're not getting enough sugar naturally from it already. no sugar needed!!
This is a great recipe that I fix at home. I also add dry nuts (almonds peanuts) and sometimes some Peanut Butter. I also add a chopped apple and any other fresh fruit I have. I use Vanilla Yogurt and don't use any artificial sweetener.
Leave out the extra Sugar/Splenda...this really should not be necessary for a smoothie like this especially with a banana already adding so much sweetness. If you want to make this smoothie that much better add a scoop of whey protein (from your local GNC or health store) instead of the yogurt. I add chocolate protein and with raspberries I have a very healthy and tasty (without adding extra sugar) start to the day.
I've been eating this smoothie for breakfast for over 2 years and I can't stop. I use 1 banana (frozen w/o peel) 1 frozen strawberry and a bunch of frozen blue berries (to taste). Then add the plain yogurt and OJ. After you blend stir in some flax seed. You should buy the Magic Bullet. This makes it sooo much easier to make a smoothie every day. I've had the same one the entire time so that something like 700 smoothies and it's still going strong.
I have been making a version of this also but I use nonfat plain yogurt a banana frozen fruit and a splash of diet peach green tea (like Snapple or Lipton). I use a fresh banana if they are not too ripe for me (but I also freeze bananas if I have too many before they get too ripe). That way I always have them available and no longer waste them by throwing them out! I adjust the amount of liquid depending on whether I am using all frozen fruit or fresh. I don't add additional sweetner but if I did I would probably choose Splenda. Great way to get a few servings of fruit and satisfies my sweet tooth but very low-calorie!
This has tons of sugar and very little protein. If you drink the entire smoothie there's almost 100 grams of carbs. Add some protein powder or pasteurized egg whites to the smoothie and it'll be a better breakfast
This is a 2 serving smoothie. I make versions of this for breakfast rotating between blueberries and strawberries orange juice and plain low fat soymilk and yoghurt and tofu. I prefer yoghurt and soy milk over orange juice and tofu. I top it off with a tablespoon of sliced almonds
I love this smoothie! I did not add any sugar or sweetner and I thought it was plenty sweet. To make sure I didn't go over on the serving size I poured my smoothie equally into 3 seperate glasses and covered 2 for tomorrow and the next day. I hope they taste just as good!
Splenda is a NASTY chemical that should not be included in ANY diet. I am disappointed that Eating Well is publishing recipes that call for it. There are so many other better options out there. Enjoy the sweetness of your berries and juice...without adding more.
I to like many others here make a similar smoothie on the weekend using 1 fresh banana or 1 frozen slightly defrosted banana 2 tbs peanut butter soymilk frozen fruit/berries ground flaxseed cereal or oatmeal(depending on what I have and if I have it 1-2 tbs of plain greek yogurt. If it needs thinning then I'll add apple juice. This smoothie is often split into 2-3 portions. Its pretty so I'm not inclined to need a snack and as I usually am fairly busy on weekends a larger portion lasts until mid-afternoon if necessary.
I have been making this recipe for myself and my kids minus the added sweetner and with nonfat yogurt. I also add in fresh spinach which adds more nutrients and my kids can't even taste the difference. Also mix it up with 100% juice cranberry or pineapple juice for variety.
Thank you so much for this recipe. It got our daughter thru a weekend of VERY early hockey playoffs. She is unable to eat anything that early so I made this and she loved sipping it on the long drive to the arenas.
I am not a big smoothie fan but I love this one! I use orange/strawberry/banana juice instead of plain OJ. I also use Stevia instead of Splenda. For the yogurt I use all natural yogurt with no sugar or anything else added to it. -Laura MacPhee
Now this smoothie is much better than the citrus one with 77g of carbs. I personally use Greek yogurt because of the higher protein content that balances the carb to protein ratio. I also put one scoop or half a package of Advocare's chocolate or vanilla muscle gain shake to make full of nutrition. It makes a great pre-workout or post-workout shake. I drink about an hour before or within an hour after I work out and it gives me the nutrition I need for my sweat session.
This smoothie is quite tasty. I didn't add any sugar but did add a bit of toasted wheat germ. Sweetness was perfect for my taste but the kids thought it was a bit tart. Either way we all loved it and have made a few times.q
Oh so delicious! I thought this was sooo good! I used vanilla flavored Activia yogurt and one packet of Splenda and kept all the rest of the ingredients the same. However next time I will leave out the Splenda. It doesn't need it at all. I felt energized and very full after one serving! What a great way to start my day.
Delicious I have made this recipe quite a few times except I don't add sugar. If I do I add honey but I don't think it needs any sweetener it is sweet enough. This morning I used 1 cup orange juice 1 cup mixed berries 1/2 cup mango yogurt and 1 banana. It is so easy to blend and it makes enough so I can have some tomorrow.
