For my wife and me, Valentine’s Day is a bit of a conundrum. Sure, we want to celebrate—who wouldn’t want an excuse for a delicious, romantic meal with their special someone—but at the same time, this holiday falls on a Tuesday and Tuesdays for us are…problematic.
If you’re like us—a married couple both working full-time jobs and still trying to have a life outside of work (crazy idea, I know)—weeknights can get packed quickly. While it’s easy to romanticize the idea of a Valentine’s Day spent exchanging tender glances over a rack of lamb or enjoying soothing all-day couples’ massages at a local spa, in reality most weeknights we’re lucky to find the time to eat a quick meal together and wash the day’s dishes before crashing for the evening. The idea of turning Valentine’s Day into a huge production is exhausting for both of us. Who’s gonna clean the dishes?
Time to Cook? Try These Valentine’s Day Dinner Recipes [6].
I think the nicest, most romantic thing you can do on Valentine’s Day is to find a way to make the best use of the time you have. That’s why I love these super-fast desserts. They’re delicious and special and, above all, manageable within the confines of a normal couple’s busy schedule. Making one is a way of saying both “I value you” and “I value your time”. So surprise your special someone with one of these delicious desserts—they’re the perfect way to turn a Tuesday night into something special.
Oh, and if you want to be extra romantic: volunteer to do the dishes yourself.
Chocolate-Covered Brownie Bites [7]
Dip bite-size pieces of brownie into melted chocolate for an easy treat.
[8]Chocolate Fondue [9]
Skewer and dip anything you like in warm chocolate—pear slices, dried apricots, even marshmallows. The chocolate will stiffen if it gets cold, so enjoy it while it's still warm.
[10]Strawberries Dipped in Chocolate [11]
A quick and healthy way to satisfy your special someone’s chocolate craving.
[12]Strawberry-Mango Margarita Compote [13]
Mangoes and strawberries make a magical marriage. Splashes of tequila, Triple Sec and lime add a subtle kick to the mix. For a nonalcoholic or kid-friendly version, substitute fresh orange juice for the tequila and Triple Sec.
