So it’s been a few days, and so far, I’m sticking to my New Year’s resolution to eat better. It’s around this time when I usually sabotage my efforts by giving myself a “reward,” in the form of a tasty treat, for staying on track. That usually involves a decadent chocolate dessert that doesn’t exactly fit under the healthy-eating umbrella.
It turns out that having a little treat is one of the secrets to losing weight [6]. So this year I’m letting myself have some mini chocolate treats [7], but I’m going to be responsible by sticking to a 100-calorie limit. The recipes I’m treating myself to are all super-chocolaty—enough to curb my craving, but not bust my diet.
Chocolate-Covered Brownie Bites [8] (76 calories for 2 bites) Dip bite-size pieces of brownie into melted chocolate for an easy treat to satisfy your chocolate craving.
Chocolate Nut Bark [9] (74 calories) Use your favorite combination of nuts to make this quick and easy chocolate nut bark.
Frozen Chocolate-Covered Bananas [10] (100 calories) Kids will love dipping bananas in melted chocolate and rolling them in coconut to make this tasty frozen treat.
Thick & Rich Hot Cocoa [11] (98 calories) Rich, creamy and thick enough that you may want to scoop it with a spoon, this European-style drinking chocolate is something different from the usual hot cocoa. Serve it in a demitasse or espresso cup for an elegant treat.
What tricks do you use to stay on track with your diet? Tell us what you think below.
