Fresh chicken and vegetable soup plus yogurt and green tea help you get rid of the cold in three days, of course with plenty of water.... I live in Mexico, and we use it always.....

Wash hands frequently, put band aids on cuts and hangnails, and wear a hoody at night to keep off drafts. Oh, and keep hands off face and mouth, especially in public.

I plop an Airborne fizzy tab once a day if I'm feeling good, 2-3x a day if I'm starting to feel crappy.

All of these people that are telling us what or what not to do: Our bodies are amazing, incredible things. But I also firmly believe that each body is different, and different things work for different people. Someone may be able to pop a couple of zinc tabs and be okay if they feel a cold coming on. Someone else might not have any help from zinc, but will feel the benefit of drinking green tea. And that's okay. I don't believe that anything is wrong or right. It's just what works for some and not others. AND THAT IS OKAY! :)
