granny smith cannot be beat for all around recipes. Tart when eaten raw. Hold up when making caramel or chocklate apples. Stay crisp when baked in pies. Great making cider.

Galas for me! You can make an apple crisp with 1/2, 1/4 the sugar if you use Gala. Plus they are so pretty!
