Portion size! The key more than any type of food to keep yourself healthy! Smaller portions mean less weight gain and generally better health. Remember... you can try all the snake oil in America to lose weight but the ONLY way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. So reduce your portion size to get on the road to healthy eating!

All of the above plus complex carbs, and limiting portion size.

Avoid any refined, processed foods, white flour, margarine, sugar. Drink raw whole milk and organic butter and eggs. Grass fed organic poultry and beef. Whole grains, like quinoa, coconut oil for cooking.

After reading the comments already given, I would say: "all the above!", however, when you've decided that you want to eat well and loose weight, you're best starting with your portion size, whilst increasing green vegetables/salad (as it fills a plate with smaller amount of calories). Sugar is the killer... very addictive stuff... Also, make sure that you do eat through the day (not fast food, not sweets)... stick to a small but high fibre breakfast, (juicing a great way to achieve that), a mid morning snack: rice cake with low cal. topping, a fruit, or a home made juice. Then if you're able, a lunch with protein... don't forget your afternoon snack again and a light dinner... with winter just around the corner: home made soups are great! And don't forget water... first thing in the morning, last at night and heaps through the day. Remember! thirst can be mistaken for hunger.

I Avoid All Additives That Could Or Would Cause Any Health Problems What-so-ever.

I avoid fried foods mostly because of my IBS. I like them, but they don't like me. I have to eat mostly bland diets. I don't need to add sugar to my shredded wheat if I add a small can of fruit cocktail and/or a banana. I eat a lot of chicken and fish and avoid red meats like steak. Eventually, I'll avoid the fried chicken and prepare skinless chicken, baked or boiled in a stew mixed with frozen veggies and an onion. Adding brocoli and asparagus for cancer fighters.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, I've been outdoors climbing mountains on strenuous rugged trails. It's rough for us folks over 65, but more folks of all ages are met on the mountain trails. I met a 76 year-old woman on her monthly climb on Table Rock Mountain Trail in upstate South Carolina near the North Carolina state line. North and South Carolina share a large wilderness area with many long hiking trails (the Foothills Trail is 76 miles long) and plenty of hikers out running off weight.

i keep away from nything carbohydrate except for low carbo vegetables, one slice 100% whole wheat bread
and of course fast food, deserts, fruit except for an occasional green apple. A very occasional dietetic ice cream (t0hey are terrible where I live), a teaspoon full of someone else;s dessert, etc. No beans, lentils, pasta, etc. It;s hard but doable, if necessary.

Soda or pop especially Coke. Plus any sugar. I'm addicted.
