I have food allergies so I eat healthy without any additives, especially corn syrup, cornstarch, artificial sweeteners. It's hard but not impossible.

We don't deep fry foods and use olive oil to pan sauté. We eat lots of fruit and veggies and follow a moderate Mediterranean diet as my husband is Spanish.

We avoid milk, eggs, peas, rye, peanuts, tree nuts, sunflower, lentils and soy (to some extent). Our son has multiple and life-threatening food allergies and as a result-- the whole household is on a modified diet. It serves us well, we eat a lot healthier. We read every label three times over and with that said we started paying a lot of attention to other ingredients such as sodium, food coloring, and any mystery ingredients such as brominated vegetable oil (so unhealthy!). EatingWell is a great source of healthy recipes with few simple ingredients. We love it.

Processed food if I use them I have to drain the liquid off and rinse to clear because of sodium.
I am diabetic so sugar is cut real low for me, also certain carbs especially simple. The complex carbs is easier to get along in recipes with. My hardest thing to deal with is I love potato chips so have to make sure to have something else around.

High fructose corn syrup and MSG! MSG can be hidden under a variety of names including spices. If ingredients don't list (ie. Parsley, oregano, garlic ) and only states spices probably msg. My body reacts badly if I accidentally ingest this crap-can send me running to the bathroom in 30 to 45 min. or total body inflammation hours later or next day. Not sure which one does what but many times they are together. They are toxins, neuroexciters, and cause inflammation. It is a shame that our government makes it so hard to stay healthy. Anything for a buck, Buy local, buy fresh!

I have been enjoying a vegan and gluten-free diet for the last two months. Vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and grains. I feel so much more energetic and have lost 20+ lbs. Tried some prepackaged vegan and gluten-free foods but not worth the bother.

I avoid anything processed, white rice, pasta and potatoes. Only eat lean meats and use oils approved by the heart foundation. Cook with salt but never add more than necessary. No added sugars and only drink water, green tea and rooibos. 5 small meals a day and a power snack 30 mins before I run. Best thing I ever did was remove alcohol, frozen goods and the added nonsense.
