We Americans are constantly excusing our gluttony with events! I'm amazed at the obesity I see all around me. When I lived in London, I didn't see one obese person (except the American women who toured), and those people ate just as well as we do. Of course, they exercise, walking to shop and get around. As an elementary teacher, it grieves me that so many children 8 and 9 years old are on the way to obesity!
This is sad!

My sausage dressing, turkey wing and squash are the main meal followed by pumpkin pie with real whipped cream topping. The best is the next day with turkey sandwiches.

I often find that the first three or four bites are the best and all bites after that is just "going through the motions". Therefore, I do not deny myself, just take a portion that is about 3-4 bites. There is always seconds if you are still unsatisfied.

I try to get the best from both worlds on the holidays. I really try and load up on the veggie dishes for sides without it being so obvious. In soups, salads, sides etc...So, with every fat or sugar I eat I also try and eat a fruit or vegetable. Instead of robbing myself during the holidays I ask myself if I indulge on this will I be to filled to eat the healthy portion, also. So, I eat the veggies or healthy stuff first then I reward myself. In most cases I find myself not interest or too full to eat too much of the wrong things.

I eat what I want and don't worry about reining it in afterward. I exercise and have a healthy overall lifestyle.
