Q. Palm Oil vs. Palm Kernel Oil

A. They both come from palm trees, but there the similarity ends. Palm oil comes from the palm fruit, while palm kernel oil is extracted from the palm seed. And while over 80 percent of the fat in palm kernel oil is saturated, only 50 percent of palm oil is, making it easier on arteries. Palm oil's reddish or golden color is a clue that it also contains a fair amount of heart-healthy carotenoids. Some research even suggests that the fatty acids in palm oil don't raise cholesterol the way saturated fats traditionally do.

We are all concerned about loss of orangutan habitat. Buy responsibly/sustainably grown red palm oil from West Africa (a traditional product there) or central/South America. Nutiva is a good brand.

I think this question has been asked but I couldn't find a reply to it. If a recipe calls for Palm oil, can it be substituted for Palm kernel without running it through a lye calc. Would that be the same for Babassu oil?

Wow ... saturated fat increases saturated fat in the blood? Please show me a study that reveals that with low carb intake. Don't blame the saturated fat ... blame the carbs for driving it there. Isn't it all about insulin, really?

"Canola oil is NOT a "franken-food". Canola was developed from rapeseed by conventional plant-breeding techniques. No gene-splicing or importing genes from other species whatsoever."

FALSE... Canola/rapeseed is one of the 4 allowed crops in Canada that is GMO, and also why i have completely cut it out of my diet.

Don't buy palm oil because the orangutan is almost extinct due to Indonesia selling its rainforest to palm oil farming. Only buy palm oils that has the Rainforest Alliance or other sustainable certification. Orangutans are beautiful, amazing creatures. Just google all of the orphans who have lost their families due to deforestation. They are little "people."

I do not use any palm derivitive in my soap products because of the destruction of orangutan habitat. 3 football fields per hour destryed to plant palm plantations! I use babassu and other hard oils to compensate

Has anyone seen the destruction of the rainforests in Malaysia for the increased demand in the production of palm oil...in particular the habitats of the orang utans? Orang Utans are on the brink of extinction because of westerners using palm oil
